The Weight is Over

As a recent MBA grad, I’m used to writing about everything business.  Analytics, Financial Accounting, and Risk Management were no brainers while in school. When it comes to writing about myself, well that’s a different story. I admit it’s harder because it involves being transparent. Transparency is something we shy away from to save face, but I realize that more is needed in our society, so why not start the movement with me.

Looking in the mirror isn’t the most thrilling experience, especially when overweight.  But I’m not just talking about physical weight.  The weight of past mistakes, the weight of broken relationships, and the weight of toxic people can alter the way in which we see ourselves.  For a long time, I’ve struggled with physical weight. I’m talking from childhood. Yup, I was the chubby kid, but I was cute (smiling).  As an adult I also struggled with other weights that broke me down to a point of self pity, low self esteem, and a misconstrued view of my own self worth.  As a believer in Jesus Christ, He has never left me through it all.  By fervently seeking Him, I have been lifted from a place of false world views and into a place of freedom and confidence.  GetUp GetFit is way more than a physical weight loss initiative, it’s about overcoming things that leave you frozen and stagnant in life.  The only way to lose that weight is to give your struggles, problems, and insecurities to God and to start seeing yourself as He does.

You’re beautiful (handsome for the guys)!  You’re smart!  You’re amazingly talented!  It’s time to start believing and receiving who God called you to be.  Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”  We have a future in Christ.  Not one of self-defeat, but of victory.  Not one of oppression, but of being raised up with purpose.  I am on a journey to reach my goal weight of 150 lbs., but most importantly I have lost the weight of letting God handle some things and not EVERYTHING in my life.  Many of us don’t like to relinquish full control or admit our weaknesses or faults, so we “try” to be someone or something we are not and handle it all on our own.  I have learned to let go and to love me through God’s awesome and boundless love and to accept myself as He does. That is the only way that you’ll truly be successful in all areas of your life.  His love will change your life and I hope to pour out His love in me to you as I inspire and motivate you to your overall spiritual and physical fitness goals.

Praying you all the success that can be sent your way,

Founder of GetUp! Get Fit!
