How Taking Care of Others Can Take Care of You

Well guys, I finally did it.  The very thing I wanted to do yet was apprehensive about. I took the leap.  I got myself a PUPPY!!! And oh the journey it has been.  October 4, 2018 I brought home a catahoula leopard dog at the tender age of 12 weeks.  She’s a rescue and oh how I adore her ๐Ÿ˜.  Now, I will say that taking care of her has been fun and challenging all at the same time.  From the house training to setting boundaries it has been a beautiful journey that is teaching me so much.  I am not a mother yet (unless being an auntie gives me some points๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ), but I realize that although taking care of  people or pets can be tiring, it creates this level of selflessness and joy.

Yes, it seems weird that giving of your time and resources, which can be oh so draining brings about a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.  I’ve been on my own for the past 7 years.  Living alone is great and has so many benefits, but when it is all the time, the silence starts to become loud.  All self-defeating thoughts become front and center and all the things you wish you had, but don’t, takes center stage.  Taking the focus off of yourself has an amazing way of saving you from yourself.

Jesus, in his days of mission work, never focused on himself and only the needs of others.    He is the epitome of selflessness and love.  Giving to others or taking care of others has an amazing way of changing an empty tank to full.  Because of the love that is given, it somehow has a boomerang effect and fills us up.  Synamon, my puppy girl, has flipped my home upside down in a good way of course and has refilled my love tank.  Take a moment and be thankful that our hearts were created not only to receive love, but are miraculously filled with love when we give it.  As we live day to day, take a moment and reflect on how giving love has made you better.  It has certainly done it for me.

Have a blessed week and continue to Get Up and Get Fit in God!
